Do you want to work with environmental and climate issues in a municipality that aims to be at the forefront? We are now looking for a driven and committed environmental coordinator to strengthen our team and contribute to Karlstad municipality's goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030.

The position is permanent and located in the Environmental Strategy Department, which currently has 11 employees working with the municipality's support and implementation of environmental strategic work. In addition, the department also works with communication regarding climate transition, outreach projects in sustainable consumption, sustainable travel, and water strategic issues, as well as energy and climate advice. The workplace is located in the Community Building House in the Inner Harbor, where we have a modern activity-based office.

Responsibilities

The work consists of various tasks to facilitate the path to climate neutrality. One example is the assignment to project manage measures within the framework of the municipality's Energy and Climate Plan. You will work both internally within the group and externally with the residents of Karlstad. Other tasks may include working with companies and associations to sign local climate contracts, being responsible for the municipality's environmental and climate education, gathering knowledge through analyses and follow-ups, and organizing outreach activities.

You will be part of a team with environmental strategists and environmental coordinators and work with other competencies within the municipality as part of the work. With us, there is the opportunity to apply remote work up to two days a week, and we have many attractive employee benefits.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with an academic education focused on sustainable development, environmental science, social science, or other education that the employer deems equivalent. We prefer that you have work experience in environmental sustainability. It is advantageous if you have previously worked in the public sector.

You have an interest in environmental and climate issues and are both proactive and skilled at coordinating, and you enjoy independent work. The tasks require a certain degree of analytical ability, and you can work with complex issues and have a high ability to deliver results. We see that you have experience and are good at collaborating and engaging in dialogue with various stakeholders, as this is a significant part of the position. We place great importance on your personal qualities.

About Karlstad Municipality

The Environmental Administration's approximately 50 employees work preventively for people's health and living environment. Through regulatory enforcement, we ensure that laws and regulations concerning food, the environment, and land surveying are followed. We drive several environmental and climate projects, provide advice on environmental and climate issues, assist property owners, and work strategically to ensure that Karlstad develops sustainably.
